Mirabelle compote

We have a few mirabelle plum trees in our backyard. In July the fruits ripen and we get a whole load of mirabelles. We like to eat them just as is, but because there are so many, we found different ways to use them. The easiest way is to make compote.

Compote is a dessert made of fruit cooked in water with a bit of sugar and spices. I especially like to drink only the liquid and it tastes like fruit tea.

To make, you only need a few ingredients.
Ingredients:
  • mirabelle plums* (cca. 1 kg or 2 lbs)
  • water
  • 1/4 cup (50 grams) brown sugar
  • cinnamon powder
  • clove powder
  • ginger powder

Directions:
  1. Thoroughly wash the mirabelles.
  2. Put the mirabelles in a large pot. Fill the pot with water and add the sugar and spices to taste.
  3. Heat the pot on high until it boils, then lower the temperature to low-medium and let to cook for a few more minutes.
  4. Take off the stove and allow to cool.
  5. Serve warm or cool.
*Cook's note
You can also use other fruits, but use spices to taste

Enjoy!
