IDEJE: Sveče

About a year ago I posted the same article in English and decided to post it separately in Slovene as well.

DIY Pencil Holder

School is back. Yippee! Well, not really. Even though I lack the enthusiasm for going back to school, I don't mind having little projects helping me organize my school supplies and my room.

I decided to create matching pencil holder out of aluminium cans, but I only had one can at the moment.

After being throroughly washed in the dishwasher, I used a hot glue gun to cover the sharp edge of the cans.

After allowing the glue to cool, I painted the cans with acrylic paint. I used painter's tape to create nice, straight lines. Let dry and fill with school supplies.

DIY Candle Roundup

It's already December and when I wake up for school it's still dark and I HATE it. I don't think that we were meant to be waking up before the sun rises. Beside that, it gets dark really fast as well and sometimes, I am not even home from school when it's pitch black. What is better that lighting a candle and enjoying its light? Okay, maybe light a fireplace fire, but besides that... Nothing!

DIY Knit Rug

Do you have any good ways to use old bed sheets? I found a great way by knitting it into a cool rug to put into my bedroom.

How to Clean Glass Candle Holders

Sometimes candles come in cute candle glass holders that you just can't throw away and would like to use for decoration. The only problem with candle holders is that there is always some wax residue.

How to make a Workout Shirt

I am very sorry I haven't written in a long time. I have been quite busy with school, soo many tests. Now that school is finally over and the beginning of summer, I decided to show you how to make a basic workout shirt from an old t-shirt. It is perfect for the summer heat, even though it is raining in Slovenia at the moment.

How to make a hair elastic organizer

I have three sisters, and with no surprise we have a LOT of hair elastics. So I decided to make a hair organizer, where I can put all of the elastics for regular ponytails, because they are they fit perfectly onto toilet paper rolls.

Homemade Mod Podge / Domače lepilo

I saw many ways to make your own mod podge. Many use school glue, but I found one that uses flour sugar, water and oil. I wanted to try this one out first, to see if it is worth buying school glue or mod podge. The results are good, if you don't mind any lumps while spreading it. I used a paintbrush to spread it, so I didn't have any problems. The results are as good as regular mod podge.

How to make your own body wash / Kako narediti tekoče milo

I joined Pinterest a few weeks ago and I found soooo many interesting things to DIY. One thing that really compelled me was making my own body wash or liquid soap. Making your own soap can really help you save money, since the difference between the bars of soap and the body washes with the same scent are big. To make your own body wash, all you need is a bar of soap and water. It is THAT simple. I made the soap in a small batch, but you can easily double the recipe, so you can make the soap in bulk.

This recipe makes 500 ml or 2 cups of soap.
Ingredients:
  • 30 gram bar of soap
  • 500 ml (2 cups) water

Directions:
I used some hotel soaps since I didn't have any other soap on hand.

  1. First, you grate the bar of soap. When grated, it should amount to about 60 ml or 1/4 cup of soap.
  2. Then you boil the water and add the grated soap until it melts. You can also add some extracts to your liking. I like to add some citrus juice, but be careful to subtract the amount of water, so the amount of liquid will stay the same. You can also add some zest.
  3. Let cool and stir every few minutes until thick. If it is too liquidy, heat it up again and add more grated soap. If it is too thick, add more water.
My melted soap with some lemon zest.

Enjoy your homemade soap!!!!

DIY Frosting bags

Homemade frosting bags are much cheaper than store bought. That is why I decided to fuse a regular plastic bag and fuse it in a way to create two frosting bags. I used the Ikea Hylta plastic bags, but you can really use any type. To fuse the bags, you need an iron and an ironing board, wax paper and of course the bags. I was really new to fusing bags, so I used tips from Releve design.

Colourful earphones / Slušalke po meri

This a REALLY simple DIY craft. All you need are some earphones and nail polish. You can easily paint over the plastic and voila, you have customized earphones that look great.

To make the craft, I suggest you use darker colours on black earphones because you can see through lighter colours. If you have white earphones, you can use any colour.

To je res preprost ustvarjalni izdelek. Potrebuješ samo slušalke in lak za nohte.Slušalke prebarvaš z lakom in voila, so že edinstvene.

Shoe insoles / Vložki za čevlje

I have these really cute boots that have really thin soles. I really needed to get some insoles so my feet wouldn't freeze outside. Before I started to look in stores, I did some research online, if I could make my own shoe insoles. I found a way to use thick wool felt for insoles, but I didn't have any, so I used three layers of dense felt. The insole work great and I hope you will try to make them as well since it is really easy and cheap.

Pozimi sem nosila zelo lepe škornje, ampak so imeli zelo tanke podplate. Zato sem sešila posebne vložke za v škornje iz volnenega filca. Zdaj mi je zelo toplo v njih in me ne skrbi, da bi lahko zeblo.

Fabric flowers / Rože iz blaga

A few weeks ago, when I decided to make this blog,  I made some vintage fabric flowers. They look very nice. I kind of followed instructions from Maize Hutton, yet I tried to make it a bit simpler.

Nekaj časa nazaj sem naredila rože iz blaga. Sledila sem navodilom Maize Hutton, vendar sem naredila malo bolj preprostejšo verzijo.

Homemade deodorant / Naravni dezodorant

During the summer, I wanted to make my own deodorant, since I didn't want to use the commercial ones with aluminum and other harsh chemicals. Since I was home almost the entire summer, I had a chance to test it out. I still don't use it on a daily basis since I really don't want an option of stinking in public, but it's great to use on a Saturday at home. I used a recipe from passionate homemaking, except I used shortening instead of the coconut oil.

The best brownies ever! / Browniji

I've got a recipe from my mom for these amazing brownies that are really easy to make. They are super fudgy and delicious!

Moja mami je že pred leti dobila izvrsten recept za "brownies" oziroma "rvjavčke". Ta recept je hiter in speče mehke in okusne brownije. Ta recept je tako preprost, da ga z lahkoto lahko podvojiš.
