The difference between the pomegranate syrup and grenadine is that the grenadine also contains pomegranate molasses and orange blossom water. I used the recipe from Jeffrey Morgenthaler because it was the best recipe and it didn't have to use the stove top.
Ingredients:
1 pomegranate*
1 cup(160 grams) powdered sugar, sifted
1 teaspoon (5 ml) vodka
2 ounces (60 ml) pomegranate molasses - to make grenadine
1 teaspoon (5 ml) orange blossom water - to make grenadine
Directions:
- Cut pomegranate in half. Press each half in a citrus juicer. You will get approximately 1 cup (235 ml) of juice. If you get any white pieces into the juice, just pour it through a sieve.
- Pour the juice into a microwave safe bowl and microwave on medium heat for a minute.
- Stir in the sifted powdered sugar until dissolved.
- Stir in the vodka, pomegranate molasses and blossom water and bottle the syrup.
*You can also use 1 cup (235 ml) of pomegranate juice instead of a fresh pomegranate and just skip the first step.
** The vodka is used as a preservative.
*** Store in the refrigerator.
Enjoy!!!!
