Pomegranate syrup - Grenadine

This has been on my to-do list for a long time, but I had to wait for pomegranate season to get a reasonable price for a kilogram, because when it is off season, it can get pricey. The syrup is really easy to make because you only have to use the microwave and citrus juicer. It is also a great syrup to make for New Year's Eve for a delicious non alcoholic drink.

The difference between the pomegranate syrup and grenadine is that the grenadine also contains pomegranate molasses and orange blossom water. I used the recipe from Jeffrey Morgenthaler because it was the best recipe and it didn't have to use the stove top.
Ingredients:
1 pomegranate*
1 cup(160 grams) powdered sugar, sifted
1 teaspoon (5 ml) vodka
2 ounces  (60 ml) pomegranate molasses - to make grenadine
1 teaspoon  (5 ml) orange blossom water - to make grenadine

Directions:
  1. Cut pomegranate in half. Press each half in a citrus juicer. You will get approximately 1 cup (235 ml) of juice. If you get any white pieces into the juice, just pour it through a sieve.
  2. Pour the juice into a microwave safe bowl and microwave on medium heat for a minute.
  3. Stir in the sifted powdered sugar until dissolved.
  4. Stir in the vodka, pomegranate molasses and blossom water and bottle the syrup.

*You can also use 1 cup (235 ml) of pomegranate juice instead of a fresh pomegranate and just skip the first step.
** The vodka is used as a preservative.
*** Store in the refrigerator.

Enjoy!!!!
